‘Native Rotterdammers almost a minority’

Rotterdam will have more first and second-generation immigrants than native Dutch residents by 2012 if current population trends continue, website nu.nl reports on Monday.

The population of the port city is increasing by 400 a month, nu.nl says, quoting the city’s statistics office COS.
Now some 52% of the population are considered native, compared with 60% in 1990. The COS defines the grandchildren of first generation immigrants as natives.
