Amsterdam district court has halted the trial of 11 people charged with involvement in a string of gangland killings to give the public prosecution department more time to reach a deal with a key witness, Nos tv reports.

Peter La Serpe, a gang member turned state’s evidence, is refusing to testify because he says he is not satisfied enough is being done to ensure his safety.
La Serpe had agreed to testify in return for having his sentence halved.
The trial has been adjourned until June 4.
Meanwhile, Nos says, police have begun an investigation into sign language one of the defendants, known as Ali A is alleged to have used in court.
The signing may have instructed a family member in the public gallery to have someone killed, Nos says. A, who is being held in the Vucht high security prison, denies the allegations.
