Five-euro coin celebrates Manhattan

The Dutch royal mint has issued a special five euro coin which commemorates the 400-year relationship between the Netherlands and New York.

One side carries a three-dimensional map of Manhattan today, on the other is an image of the island as it was when Dutch travellers came across Mana-Hatta in the 17th century.
The mint says new laser techniques make it possible to add many details to the coins, which can either be felt or seen under a magnifying glass. The images were created with the help of Google Earth and 17th century maps.
The coin is also available in silver and gold.
