Fewer road traffic deaths in 2008
Wednesday 22 April 2009
A total of 750 people were killed on the Dutch roads last year, 41 fewer than in 2007, says the national statistics office CBS.
The drop was largest among the under-15s, the CBS said.
The continuing decline in road deaths shows that campaigns to improve road safety are having an effect, the organisation said. In the 1970s, more than 3,000 people were killed in traffic accidents every year.
Only Malta has a lower traffic death rate than the Netherlands as a percentage of the population.
