Fewer traffic fines handed out last year
Friday 16 January 2009
The police handed out one million fewer traffic fines last year than they did in 2007, according to prosecution department figures quoted in Trouw on Friday.
Most of the decline was due to industrial action by police, the department says.
In total, 11.5 million fines were levied on road users. Of those, 9.2 million were for speeding, 200,000 were for not wearing a seatbelt and 47,000 for not wearing a helmet on a motorbike.
