Giraffes kept indoors to prevent injury

The freezing winter weather is affecting safari park Beekse Bergen where the giraffes are being kept indoors in case they slip on the snow and break their necks or legs, says the Telegraaf.

The great apes are also being kept in because they could escape from their enclosure across the frozen moat, the paper says.
Visitors to the park are only being allowed in on foot because the roads have not been treated. The salt needed to keep the roads ice-free could be bad for the animals, a spokesman told the Telegraaf.
