Surprise guest at swimmer’s retirement party

Australia’s star swimmer Ian Thorpe was the surprise guest at Pieter van den Hoogenband’s formal retirement party this weekend, the Telegraaf reports. The two have raced against each other on many occasions.
‘When I saw him, I thought ‘I am not going to cry,’ Van den Hoogenband, who has won two Olympic medals, told the paper.

Hm... that's a little... weird. Thorpey told reporters that he didn't want to miss one of the most important days of Hoogie's life. And he wonders why people think he's gay.
