Red deer mysteriously arrive on island
Thursday 20 November 2008
The mysterious arrival of 10 red deer on the Wadden Sea island of Terschelling has surprised and puzzled local biologists.
The animals, which can weigh up to 250 kg, are not native to the island and may have been smuggled across in horse trailers, ANP reported on Thursday.
Red deer are only found in the Veluwe heathland region and the Oostvaarderplassen nature reserve near Almere.

Although the United States cannot boast of such substantial deer (250KG), our deer are vigorous swimmers between islands in the Northeast.
