Dutch graffiti artist arrested in New York

Friday 19 September 2008

US justice officials have issued an arrest warrant for Dutch resident Robbert Boxem who went to New York as a ‘graffiti tourist’, the International Herald Tribune reports.

The paper says the 23-year-old from Zwolle could get up to four years in prison if convicted. He has been indicted on charges of spray-painting a subway carriage and leading police on a dangerous chase along the tracks.

The warrant was issued on Thursday after he failed to turn up in court, the paper says.

Oh big woop, he graffitied a subway "carriage" and was chased (he didnt lead them into it) along the tracks. does this diserve 4 years. fuck no. stupid story.

its only 4 years because he made police run. They consider "resisiting arrest" a serious charge because cops are too fat to run, hence why they waste money on gas driving around randomly. Don't worry, your tickets pay for their gas. But your freedom is the price you pay for making them gasp for air. Air = life, pigs HATE life.

4 years for this? you have rapists seeing the same amount of time as this. you decide, whats worse

Well, it's very unlikey that any actual jail time would be handed down. Why I agree that it is stupid that such a fuss is being made about graffeti, laws are made not to be broken...lol If he had appeared for his court date, it is nearly 99.9% likey he would have walked out with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Would the police in The Hague have looked the other way if someone had been spotted spray painting grafetti on a public wall?

I'm 56,I'm against graffity, but 4 years for that, give me a break, make him clean graffity whereever, but 4 years, come on ,how much will this cost the taxpayers?

4 years of prison for that is insane, i understand he shouldnt of done what he did, but i dont think 4 years in prison is what he deserves, thats just stupid... he should be put on probation and have community service is all i think... i think 4 years of your life for making a mark on an object is just bogus...

Will you guys please stop tooting "4 years! 4 years! 4 bloody years!"

Please.

That is the *maximum* amount of time he could spend. Maximum. The minimum could be just a fine or community service. Of course the judge will hear what the guy has to say on his reason for resisting arrest, his failure to show for court, and also have to take into consideration his priors (that is if the Dutch will share that information with us), but BY NO MEANS should graffiti crime be let go as just a nuisance and nothing to fight for.

There is petty crime everywhere. Do you want these to go dismissed and have them go solely after rapists and murderers? Please, the U.S. is not filled with such animals that detectives and cops can't police other criminal activities. Show us proof otherwise.

The last thing I want is people having free reign to do graffiti everywhere without punishment. No freaking thanks.
