Dutch diplomats are lobbying the European Commission to impose sanctions on Bulgaria for its failure to tackle organised crime, the NRC reports on Thursday, quoting diplomatic sources.
Bulgaria joined the EU last year.

The Netherlands wants a Commission report on Bulgaria due to be published next week to include mention of sanctions, the paper says. Britain and France also want the Commission to take a tough line, the NRC states.
As well as a reduction in EU subsidies, The Netherlands suggests that Bulgaria be excluded from the Schengen zone – the area of Europe with open borders, the NRC says.
