Row between Wegener and Mecom grows

Monday 30 June 2008

The supervisory board at Dutch newspaper company Wegener resigned on Friday in a row with British newspaper man David Montgomery, who owns 87% of the company through Mecom.

Last week it emerged the editors of all Wegener’s seven regional newspapers had written to Montgomery urging him to rethink his reorganisation plans, which will lead to 400 job losses.

The editors also said that, since Mecom’s arrival, the company had been confronted with financial short term policy and a lack of leadership.
