Lisbon treaty not dead, says minister

The EU’s Lisbon treaty is not dead, despite the Irish no vote in last week’s referendum, Dutch foreign minister Maxime Verhagen told the Telegraaf on Monday.

Verhagen was speaking after talks on the Irish rejection of the treaty with other European leaders in Luxemburg.
Verhagen said he urged the other eight countries who have still not ratified the treaty to press ahead. In the Netherlands, the upper house of parliament (senate) will vote on the treaty on July 7.
