Defence ministry faces 700 claims

Some 700 armed forces veterans have made damages claims against the defence ministry for physical or mental damage, the AD reports on Friday.
Most of those making claims served in either Lebanon or the Balkans when there was no follow-up care, the paper says.
These days there is a wide variety of care services to help veterans cope. Just 12 claims have been made by veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
Military union AFMP called on the government to settle the old claims as quickly as possible. ‘These people have done their duty and are now in difficulties,’ deputy chairman Ed Lugthart told the paper.
The claims are for damages which are not covered by the standard invalidity pension for veterans, the AD says. These could include a specially adapted car for a soldier who has become handicapped, for example.

The Soldiers deserve more than car. They deserve everythings for serving the Nation and others Nations especialy the ones who were in Iraq and Afghanistan.Hope the Ducth Government will not do like the US.Many US soldiers who were in Irak have no homes in America.
