Politicians generate too-high expectations among voters and are too quick to come up with proposals on the basis of news reports, André Rouvoet, minister for the family, is reported as saying by news agency ANP.

Speaking during a debate at Groningen University, Rouvoet said that politicians’ failure to meet expectations was increasing frustrations.
‘It is contributing to mistrust of politicians and increasing the division between politicians and citizens,’ he said. ‘Populism only leads to disappointment.’
