'Unofficial judge': two suspects missing

Wednesday 07 November 2007

A suspected rapist and a suspected child abuser have gone missing after being freed from pre-trial custody because one of the judges had not been properly sworn in.

Eight suspects were released from custody last week by a court in Den Bosch because of the mix-up.

On Wednesday morning the Volkskrant reported that four of the eight suspects were back in custody, including a woman suspected of murdering her partner.

A court in The Hague decided on Tuesday evening that public safety weighed more than the rights of the suspects and overturned the Den Bosch decision. Police are now hunting for the missing two. Extra manpower has been made available, news agency ANP reported.
