Liberal leader attacks Wilders and VerdonkTuesday 27 November 2007 Geert Wilders and Rita Verdonk are deceiving their supporters with their populist and unworkable solutions, says Liberal (VVD) party leader Mark Rutte in an opinion piece in Tuesday's Volkskrant. These leaders of the 'new politics' are guilty of cheap rhetoric by ignoring the law in their solutions, he says. Wilders is the leader of the anti-immigration party PVV and Verdonk set up her own movement, Trots op Nederland (proud of the Netherlands) after being thrown out of the Liberal party earlier this year. In the future voters will have to choose between a smooth presentation and a well-thought out reform process, says Rutte. 'Anyone who thinks he can change the world with a few sound-bites deceives not just the voters but himself too,' he adds. The Liberal leader believes that lively debate encourages the recruitment of new talent and says that without new blood and new ideas, 'new politics' will be over- dependent on a single strong personality. His comments come a week after the veteran Liberal politician Hans Wiegel suggested merging the VVD, PVV and Trots op Nederland – a proposal which was sharply criticised by Liberal party leaders. © DutchNews.nl
I have been visiting Amsterdam for many years and just recently I have become more fearful when I walk around. Geert Wilders and Rita Verdonk are the only ones talking about this real issue....all the others are hiding in the sand...hoping all will get better and just go away. The Dutch have to change this Christian coalition....In my country they use the "children" to push their Christian agenda....in the Netherlands (especially Amsterdam), its the "mob". Close the red light windows because of the Mob...close or limit the coffee shops because of the Mob....strange I never see any going to jail....just millions of euros to buy them out.... Is it that hard for a small country to find evidence of money laundering and the "mob" and put them in JAIL? By Al | November 27, 2007 11:07 AM I don't know what you're talking about Al. Prostitution is legal in this country and they pay taxes. All coffee shops are also legal businesses and have to pay taxes. There is nothing that the Dutch do not know about in their own country. By Sandra | November 28, 2007 5:32 AM Thanks Sandra for the info. They are closing a third of the red light windows in Amsterdam...and harrass the coffee shops to death...did you know they can't even put there address or the words "coffee shop" on their lighters they sell...of course both done to keep the "mob" away....WHAT? I can't believe this is coming from Mark Rutte. I think I will get my popcorn ready to sit back and watch the fire works from the Trots op Nederland opposition. You insulted Rita Verdonk, look out Mark Rutte- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
