Pensioners abused out of revenge
Monday 30 July 2007
Some 76% of pensioners who were physically abused last year were the victims of revenge or greed, the Nederlands Dagblad reports on Monday. The paper says half of the perpetrators were children or grandchildren.
The figures have been collated by a new group to combat abuse of the elderly. Until now it had always been assumed that most abuse was carried out by over-worked care workers or by family members who were at the end of their tether.
In total, the new platform collected 368 cases of abuse.
