Fewer jobs to go if RBS wins ABN Amro

Between 17,000 and 19,000 jobs will go if the banking consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland takes over ABN Amro, trade union De Unie said on Wednesday.

The union bases its claim on talks held between the banking unions and the consortium on Tuesday evening. Of those, 7,500 would go in the Netherlands, the consortium said.
Under the rival offer bid for ABN Amro from Barclays, 23,600 jobs would go or be moved to low-cost countries. But only an estimated 1,500 are thought to be under threat in Holland.
