Dutch positive on new air treaty
Tuesday 13 March 2007
The Netherlands is 'enormously positive' about the new air travel treaty being worked on by EU and US negotiators, a spokeswoman for transport minister Camiel Eurlings told ANP on Tuesday.
The Netherlands hoped the new open skies agreement, which will replace all the treaties between the US and individual EU countries, will be backed by ministers in Brussels next week, the spokeswoman said.
The UK is strongly opposed to the new treaty, which will force Heathrow to open US flight slots to airlines other than British Airways. 'We do not share the criticism,' the spokeswoman said, adding that the new deal would give new opportunities to Air France-KLM.
