The popular Bloomingdale beach bar on the North Sea coast near Bloemendaal was destroyed in a massive fire on Saturday night, just as the summer season is picking up.

The blaze also damaged the children’s trampoline park next door, which owners Roetert van Dijk en Sam M Zadeh say will cost at least €40,000 to put right.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been established. There was no one at the location when the fire broke out.

Bloomingdale dates back to 2002 when it was set up by the ID&T organisation as a festival site. In recent years it has become more of a restaurant and corporate hospitality location.

The company website states that “with great sadness” the location is now closed until further notice.
