Airline Air France-KLM booked net profit of €700 million last year but the days of cheap flying are now over, KLM chief executive Marjan Rintel told RTLZ on Friday.

‘Travel will never again mean a front row seat for little money. We will all have to pay a realistic price,’ Rintel told the broadcaster, while commenting on the company’s annual results.

The group’s financial fortunes are almost back at the same level of 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic hit. KLM booked sales of €10.7 billion while the combined group hit €26.4 billion, the company announced on Friday.

KLM is optimistic about the rest of 2023 but has warned that ‘uncertainties’ such as such as inflation, the price of fuel and scarcity in the labour market may have an impact.
