University hospital personnel are to get a 10% pay rise, split into a 6% increase in January and 4% in November next year.

The deal will cover all 80,000 people who work in the Netherlands’ seven academic hospitals. The unions had set a target of 11.3% and say they will go for full inflation compensation in the next pay round.

Last year, university hospital workers went on strike twice in support of an increase in pay and measures to reduce the pressure of work.

A new pay deal for workers at the rest of the country’s hospitals has not yet been finalised.
