Friday was the warmest October 28 on record, and more is to come

Friday was the warmest October 28 since records began and more weather records could be broken this weekend, forecasters say.

The temperature reached 23.5 degrees in Maastricht, beating the previous record set in 2005 by one full degree. In the De Bilt weather station, where official records are set, the temperature topped 20 Celsius, compared with 19.4 Celsius in 2005.

There were, however, sharp regional variations. On the Wadden Sea island of Terschelling, for example, it was no warmer than 16 Celsius.

Overnight it will become more cloudy and there could be the odd localised shower in the north west.

But the warm weather is set to continue over the weekend, with temperatures as high as 25 Celsius in Limburg on the cards.

The temperature will drop by mid-week, with a high of 13 degrees expected on Wednesday according to weather site Buienradar.

The warm weekend also coincides with the end of summer time, with the clocks going back one hour on Saturday night.
