Police arrested a 51-year-old man for driving his car into a street terrace twice in the Zeeland resort of Renesse in the early hours of Wednesday.

A woman was hurt in the incident and had to be treated by ambulance personnel. Police said the man had been involved in a row with bar staff, got into his car and drove into the terrace twice.

After police gave chase, he stepped out of his car and approached the officers carrying what looked like a knife. The officer then used a taser and pepper spray to subdue him.

Images of the event have been doing the rounds on social media and police are calling on witnesses to come forward.

The owner of the bar told regional paper PZC the problem started when the man got into a row with bouncers at another bar across the road. ‘Our bouncers and theirs tried to calm him but he went totally berserk,’ he told the paper.

Shortly afterwards the man drove into the terrace. ‘We got everyone inside and locked the door or it would have been worse,’ the owner said.
