Is winter over already? March may well be sunny and warm

March is set to be a sunny month with high temperatures and little rain – according to weather forecasters at Weerplaza.

The forecast is based on the number of high pressure areas set to follow each other across the Netherlands in quick succession, says weather forecaster Alfred Snoek.

This week the temperatures are set to be two or three degrees above normal for the time of year, and spring is starting with plenty of sunshine and temperatures reaching as high as 15 Celsius, he said.

Nevertheless, long term forecasts can be wrong, Snoek said, pointing out that the predictions for this winter had been for a very cold spell. ‘A sunny March is something to look forward to, but is by no means guaranteed,’ he said.

The KNMI weather bureau is also predicting plenty of sunshine and no rain in the week to come, and higher than average temperatures later in the month. However, it also says that the likelihood of rain is 40% to 50% by the middle of the month.

Weeronline too sees plenty of sunshine ahead, but warns that the nights will still be chilly.
