Popular Dutch singer Marco Borsato has asked the public prosecutor’s office to investigate the sources of online rumours accusing him of sexually harrassing minors, his lawyers have told the AD.

‘Let it be clear that Marco Borsato denies all accusations made against him,’ lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops told the paper.

Knoops said if the sources of the rumours can be identified, the next step will be ‘possible legal action’ for defamation.

Borsato has been the butt of gossip on various so-called juice channels, which spread unchecked stories about celebrities. A particularly damaging story about Borsato claims he showed sexual interest in underage girls at a barbecue at his house for contestants in The Voice Kids. Borsato is a member of the talent show’s jury.

No reports have ever been made to police, the AD said.
