Amsterdam police now say they are looking for three more people in connection with last Wednesday’s attempted gold heist in the north of the city.

Earlier police said they were looking for two more people who were involved in the robbery, which ended in a chase across fields near Broek in Waterland.

Meanwhile the identity of the one armed robber who was shot dead by police has been confirmed, the public prosecution department said, describing him as a 37-year-old French national.

Six other suspects have been remanded in custody. One has not yet been formally identified. The others are aged between 24 and 40, three are French and two are Belgian.

All the stolen goods are now thought to have been recovered.
