The Dutch government is poised to announce that people can go on foreign holidays from June 15, sources have told RTL Nieuws and other  media.

A relaxation of the travel rules on that date would coincide with much of the rest of Europe. Ministers are meeting health advisors on Wednesday and, according to RTL, prime minister Mark Rutte will hold a press conference on Wednesday evening, at which the changes will be announced.

The official Dutch travel advice is currently on amber, which means no-one should travel abroad unless necessary. That will now be switched for yellow in much of Europe, which means travellers should still exercise caution, RTL said.

The Dutch go ahead does not mean that all EU countries will equally welcome tourists from the Netherlands. Greece, for example, has said it will test all tourists arriving from Dutch airports for coronavirus and everyone will have to spend at least a week in quarantine.

Rutte had promised more clarity about foreign holiday options this week. The first schools are due to break up for the summer at the end of the month.
