Forget Heineken: the Netherlands has 422 breweries to choose from
The Netherlands now has 422 recognised breweries and 38 new ones have started production this year, according to website Cambrinus.
The increase is due to the rising popularity of micro breweries, which produce new flavours and are using new brewing techniques, Cambrinus said. Five years ago, the Netherlands had just 140 breweries.
Most – 100 – are located in Noord-Holland province, and 42 of them are in Amsterdam. Noord-Holland has nine breweries per 250,000 inhabitants, just beating Noord-Brabant at 8.4.
