Rare wolf spider spotted in Limburg
A rare type of wolf spider has been found in the south of Limburg, according to website Natuurbericht.
It is the first time in 124 years this particular species has been spotted in the Netherlands, Natuurbericht.nl said.
The wolf spider (Piratula knorri) was found in May by a group of youngsters on an organised nature walk but has only recently been formally identified.
Known in Dutch as the beekpiraat (stream pirate), the spiders are found on shady gravel patches close to fast-moving streams. They do not make webs but instead hunt their prey at ground level.
The Netherlands has some 650 different types of spider.
