Rotterdammers want a quota for eastern Europeans: poll

Three-quarters of the people in Rotterdam want a brake on the number of people moving to the city from eastern Europe, according to a poll of 670 people by the Maurice de Hond polling group.

The poll was carried out for anti-immigration party Leefbaar Rotterdam which is hoping to be the biggest party in the city after the March 19 vote.

The party is calling for a quota on new immigrants from central and eastern Europe of 1,000 a year. The arrival of so many newcomers is leading to problems and job losses for the native Dutch, campaign leader Joost Eerdmans is quoted as saying.
