High-speed trains: Thalys benefits from Fyra fall-out

The Thalys high-speed train company has benefited from the cancellation of the Dutch Fyra service from Amsterdam to Brussels, booking a 46% rise in passenger numbers on that route.

In particular, there was a sharp rise in passengers in the second half of the year, the company said on Monday.

Thalys is an alliance between the French, German and Belgian railways. Fyra, a joint venture between Dutch railway firm NS and the Belgians, was scrapped because of ongoing technical problems.
