Charities have to pay councils for door-to-door collection permits

Charities are having to pay hundreds of euros in permits to run door-to-door collections in some parts of the Netherlands, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The most expensive local authority areas include Woensdrecht in the far south where charities pay €306 for a licence, and Amsterdam where the price is €235. The charities are to discuss the charges with the local authorities’ association.

‘Each council has to produce the same papework and it is very odd that some charge so much more than others,’ spokesman Peter Schoof told the paper. Many councils don’t charge anything, the paper said.
