Most internet users end up with slower speeds than they paid for

At least 95% of internet users do not get the speed they are paying for, according to research published in Wednesday’s AD.

Website Breedbandwinkel.nl asked 50,000 users about their internet packages and found in more than 50% of cases, speeds were less than half  that promised.

Director Peter van Wezel told the AD it is ridiculous that most clients are treated so badly. In extreme cases, consumers had less than 15% of the speed promised by the their internet service provider, he said.

Cable company Ziggo, which emerged as the ‘least bad’ provider in the survey, said cable firms are supplying correct speeds when internet enters the property.  Consumers are causing the slowdown because too many of them are using wifi, spokesman Erik van Doeselaar said.

Van Wezel said wifi does slow down internet but that much more speed is lost through poor quality cables.
