Van Gogh letter expected to be biggest auction earner

A letter written in 1890 by Vincent van Gogh is set to be the high point in an auction of historical documents in New York next month.

The letter, written to Joseph and Marie Ginoux, owners of the Café de la Gare in Arles where the painter was living temporarily, is expected to fetch between €154,000 and €231,000.
Also in the sale, part of an anonymous American’s collection, are letters from John Lennon, Napoleon, Sigmund Freud, Tchaikovsky, Charles Darwin and George Washington.
