Cuts set to hit Dutch film industry

The Dutch film industry is a valuable one which employs some 20,000 people but government spending cuts are threatening film production, according to research by SEO Economisch Onderzoek.

Over the past four years, the number of people going to the cinema to watch Dutch films has gone up by 80% but the production volume is set to fall by one-third in 2013 because of the funding cuts, the report shows.
The film industry wants the government to develop its own strategy for Dutch film to prevent talent and expertise leaving the Netherlands and to make it easier to attract outside investment.
