Dutch Paralympians awarded royal honours

Nine of the members of the Dutch team at this year’s Paralympic Games in London were awarded the rank of knight in the order of Oranje-Nassau on Tuesday during an official welcome.

The nine athletes all won gold during the event. Two other gold medalists were given statuettes as they received the order earlier in their careers, sports union NOC*NSF said.
The awards were presented by sports minister Edith Schippers. Right-wing liberal VVD leader Mark Rutte and labour PvdA leader Diederik Samsom were also present.
