Couple questioned after alleged burglar dies in fight

A couple have been questioned by police after an alleged burglar died in a fight at their home in the Noord-Brabant village of Diessen on Monday night.

The couple are considered suspects in the death of the burglar, a 37-year-old man from Tilburg, according to media reports.
Police are now investigating how the man died and whether or not the couple used excessive force. The man was unconscious when police arrived at the house and died in hospital.
The couple were also injured in the fight and treated in hospital for their injuries.
Birds
Police are investigating whether or not the burglar was after the show birds which the couple kept in an cage. Police have not ruled out the involvement of a second burglar, the Telegraaf said.
Caretaker justice minister Fred Teeven told the paper on Wednesday: ‘It is regrettable that someone has died but that is the risk burglars take’.
Teeven welcomed the fact the couple had not been arrested. ‘They are the victims and should not be treated as suspects’, he said.
