Former PvdA senator quits the party

Former senator Rudy Rabbinge has resigned from the PvdA (Labour), saying the party has become opportunistic and reactionary.

Rabbinge, who co-wrote several party policy documents, told the Volkskrant the PvdA was becoming as ‘vague and half-baked’ as the Christian Democrats.
The party’s flirtation with Geert Wilders’ anti-Islam PVV during debate on the EU debt crisis has also irritated Rabbinge, the paper says.
‘The PvdA is busy helping the PVV to move in better circles,’ he said. The rise of populism is ‘giving too much room to fascist feelings’.
