Hurry up with right to buy for social housing tenants: VVD

VVD MPs want the government to speed up legislation to allow people living in rent controlled housing to buy their property at a discount, website nu.nl reports.

VVD MP Betty de Boer told the website that the right to buy is part of the coalition agreement. ‘[home affairs minister Piet Hein] Donner has to get a move on. We want to see results before the summer,’ De Boer said.
Research shows 25% of people living in social housing would like to buy their own home.
Slum landlords
Meanwhile, Labour MPs want the government to crack down on slum landlords, who charge extortionate rents for poor housing.
For example, the banks should be given the right to end the mortgages of people found operating as slum landlords, and to confiscate their property, Jacques Monasch says in the Telegraaf.
