Fortis legal action to start in May: VEB

Legal action against the Dutch state for its role in buying up parts of the Fortis financial services group last year will begin on May 27, says the Dutch shareholders’ lobby group VEB.

The VEB and its Belgian equivalent Deminor claim the Dutch state acted illegally when it nationalised Fortis Nederland last year. It wants damages for shareholders who saw their shareholdings plunge in value.
The May 27 hearing will not go into details about the case but set out the way the case will be dealt with, news agency AFN said.
