Roadside bomber gets 25 years

An American judge on Wednesday encouraged the Netherlands to impose a 25-year sentence on one of its nationals who has admitted conspiring to plant roadside bombs in Iraq, news agency AP reports.

The 25-year sentence imposed in the US is part of a plea deal with Wesam al-Delaema, who videotaped himself and others showing off roadside bombs they said they would use to kill Americans, AP said.
Al-Delaema (36) became a Dutch citizen as an adult and is the first insurgent from the Iraq war prosecuted in the US.
He was deported by Dutch authorities on the condition he be allowed to serve out his sentence in the Netherlands. That sentence is likely to be cut considerably, Dutch newspapers report.
