Some 95,000 vehicles imported last year

Some 95,000 private individuals imported a new or second-hand car into the Netherlands last year, according to transport ministry figures.

Cars of just one or two years old and small vans were the most popular imports, the vehicle licensing body RDW says in Wednesday’s Telegraaf.
One reason for the popularity is the high Dutch sales tax (bpm) on vehicles, which is currently being phased out. People buying a car, say in Germany, can currently save up to €20,000, the paper says.
