Rotterdam’s Feyenoord stadium could book a loss this year because the economic downturn means fewer concerts are planned at the venue and the home club’s poor performance on the football pitch, reports Tuesday’s AD newspaper.

On Monday the band U2 chose for Amsterdam’s Arena rather than Feyenoord stadium for its concert later this year and earlier options by Blof and singer Frans Bauer were also called off.
Meanwhile Feyenoord football club were taken out of the national tournament and the UEFA Cup early in the season so that income from matches was down.
‘The sport crisis hasn’t helped. Hopefully Feyenoord will make the play-offs so that there will be extra games this summer,’ the stadium’s financial director Jan van Merwijk tells the paper.
The exact extent of Feyenoord stadium’s losses are not yet known. ‘We have made profit in the past years. We can absorb this loss but it’s not something that should continue,’ said Merwijk.
