Reported crimes down 7%

Registered crime fell by 7% in 2006 compared with 2005 and 18% compared with 2002 but the number of suspects arrested increased, according to official police figures.


In particular the number of women, youngsters and first time criminals held by police went up.
Violent crime started to show signs of levelling off in 2006 and sex crimes decreased by 18%, according to the national police information service (DNRI).
