Anger at medals for Srebrenica soldiers

Defence minister Henk Kamp today presented some 850 soldiers who were present at the storming of the Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995 with a medal, in recognition of their experiences there.

Some 8,000 Muslim men and boys, who were under Dutch UN protection, were massacred by the Bosnian Serbs after the town fell. Families of the victims had protested about the medal ceremony, saying the Dutch government was not equally concerned about the welfare of survivors. Mass graves are still being discovered.
