New island plan to hold back rising sea

A ‘wave breaker’, made up of an outer ring of islands, should be created north of the existing Wadden Sea islands in order to protect the country against rising sea levels, says Hans Alders, the Queen’s Commissioner in Groningen, in today’s Telegraaf.


Raising the dikes was not enough to cope with the possibility of a three-metre rise in the sea level over the next 30 years, he said.
