Alleged crime boss, Willem Holleeder, one of the men convicted of kidnapping beer magnate Freddy Heineken in 1983, has gone on hunger strike in protest at being separated from his lawyers by a glass wall, De Telegraaf reports.

Holleeder, currently on trial for blackmailing several property magnates, is being held at a high-security prison. He claims the glass wall makes it impossible to prepare his defence. Holleeder is also being investigated for his role in the gangland killings of several Amsterdam underworld leaders.
