Greenpeace blockades Probo Koala

Greenpeace activists have blockaded the Probo Koala tanker in the port of Paldinski in Estland since Monday afternoon. Seven people in Ivory Coast died after the ship dumped toxic waste there in August.

The environmental organisation wants the EC to ground the ship until the disaster has been fully investigated. Meanwhile, the ship’s owners Dutch-registered Trafigura claims that tests carried out by the independent Dutch laboratory Saybolt when the ship was moored in Amsterdam prove that the waste was not toxic. But Saybolt says it cannot confirm this conclusion from the unlabelled samples it received.
