Household Textiles
A hundred years ago a trousseau of household textiles could have 100 to more than 600 items, ranging from bed linen to tea towels and cloths for polishing the silver. They were made of high quality material with the bed linen embellished with lace and embroidered edgings and the kitchen towels woven in blue and red checks. After 1945 these trousseaus began to disappear, replaced with an ever-changing range of bright colours and modern designs. Examples of all these are on display.
Textile Museum, Tilburg until June 13.
